Nearly 9,000 Attendees Join SAP Hybris For Live and Virtual Summit on Digital Disruption

SAP NEWSBYTE — March 15, 2017 — SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) concluded its inaugural SAP Hybris LIVE: Digital Summit on March 8. The live events hosted almost 500 in-person attendees at locations in Singapore, Munich, and New York and nearly 300 at satellite events, while more than 8,000 virtual attendees registered to follow via the live-streamed sessions and access content on the event platform.

Event Highlights and News

Throughout the event, SAP Hybris executives, customers, and partners presented keynotes and sessions detailing innovative stories, exemplifying how to meet changing customer demands. At the New York event, SAP Hybris President and co-founder Carsten Thoma described his vision of the cloud and debuted SAP Hybris Revenue Cloud, a new solution that provides a simplified, automated approach to managing quote-to-cash, billing and ordering processes.

Additional keynotes were presented by Brian Walker, Chief Strategy Officer, and Jamie Anderson, SVP & Chief Marketing Officer, at SAP Hybris. In Munich, Walker shared insights for integrating data and channels to remain focused on the customer experience. Earlier in Singapore, Anderson examined how themes in science fiction films around the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and advertising apply to today’s reality and where customer engagement is heading as a result.

At the Munich event, Eberhardt Weber, Founder and CEO of SAAS AG/Lieferladen.de, a Germany-based online supermarket, explained in a customer panel that digital transformation is not science fiction but is increasingly becoming a reality: “There are over 38,000 grocery stores in Germany today and with our microservices-based platform, we can provide a pay-per-use online channel to grocers complementing their brick-and-mortar stores, using their local infrastructure and proximity to their customers.”

MSIG, one of the largest general insurers in Southeast Asia, is considering AI and blockchain technologies for claims service or claims settlement as they continue in their digital transformation. “Over 50 percent of our new sales by policy count is attributed to digital platforms, but we don’t want to just supply online what is already in place – that’s only the first part of digitization”, explained Michael W. Gourlay, CEO of MSIG during the Singapore event. “Innovation through digitization needs to consider what is important for the customer - such as platforms, product offerings or services that provide long-term value – and thus, requires a different proposition for enhancing the customer’s experience.”

Scott Liewehr, co-founder and CEO, Digital Clarity Group, attended the SAP Hybris LIVE: Digital Summit in New York. Reflecting on his experience, he commented: “Not only was the event engaging in-person, but SAP Hybris provided a high-quality online experience as well. The multimedia component provided attendees a forum to monitor and identify key themes and news across regions, supplementing an onsite experience. The customer speakers also helped illustrate many of the themes that were discussed, providing listeners with additional insight into the impact of SAP Hybris’ work.”

During the event, SAP Hybris also launched its own podcast, “SAP Hybris Live,” kicking off with a 20th anniversary series. These inaugural episodes will examine how customer engagement and commerce has evolved since 1997 when hybris was founded.

Recognizing the SAP Hybris Partner Ecosystem

SAP Hybris partners were recognized at each event location for impacting digital transformation within their client base.

Winners were honored at both the global and regional levels for their contributions, including: Partner of the Year: Accenture Interactive; SMB Partner of the Year: itelligence; and ISV Partner of the Year: GK Software. The announcement and a complete list of winners is available here.

“As the pace of digital transformation accelerates, it’s important for organizations to be strategic with technology approaches and have the best options available,” said Patrick Finn, senior vice president of Strategic Alliances, SAP Hybris. “SAP Hybris’ broad partner ecosystem is crucial in helping our customers innovate and push the boundaries on customer engagement in the digital age.”

Supporting the Future Workforce

During his New York keynote, Carsten Thoma pointed out that “we are facing probably one of the most impactful industrial revolutions of the future.” In a demonstration of SAP Hybris’ commitment to preparing young talent for this future, SAP announced a $100,000 donation to Business Technology Early College High School (BTECH) during the event. Founded in 2013, BTECH is the result of a public/private partnership between SAP, the New York City Department of Education, Queensborough Community College, and the Early College Initiative at the City University of New York. BTECH students get real-world, hands-on experience through internships and on-the-job experience with SAP and graduate with professional certifications.
